IDENTIFICATION: Aluminum end loaded case with integral bellhousing and "waffle" pattern cast into the case. This transmission has three different designs and designations. Commonly referred to as a Getrag, it is also known as a HM290 (Hydramatic), a 5LM60 (Muncie) and a NV3500 (New Venture). As the main differences are internal, you will need to tear down the unit before ordering the rebuild kit. This transmission uses a special synthetic fluid, which is available from your local dealer.
