The NP205 is considered one of the strongest transfer cases
available, it?s strength is gained by elimination of the drive chain. The NP20t is
a gear driven transfer case The NP205 was utilized in GM, Ford, International and
Dodge full-size trucks.
GM NP205 Transfer Case
General Motors Chevrolet has a racetrack (circle eight)
pattern in the model years 1971 through 1985 with 8-bolt circle pattern. Later model
GM NP205 units were supplied with 6-bolt circle pattern.
Ford New Process 205 Transfer Case
The Ford NP205 transfer case has a 6 bolt circular bolt pattern. The drop
to the front differential is on the driver side; The Ford NP205 has a 31 Spline female
input, and a 32 Spline output. Front output is also 32 Splines.
Dodge NP205 Transfer Case
The Dodge NP205 transfer cases were manufactured with 8 bolt pattern similar
to the Chevrolet, in later years Dodge utilized 6 bolt patters, most units were supplied
with a 23 spline male input and require a shaft coupler to connect to the transmission
output shaft. Drops to the front differential are located on the passenger side,
29 spline units were used behind the 5-speed Getrag manual transmission in the diesel
applications.
