Slip Yoke
Eliminator Kit
A Slip Yoke
Eliminator Kit will eliminate the need to drop your transfer case in
order to avoid drive train vibrations that are caused by taller
suspension lift kits. This kit is a must if you have installed a 2” or taller suspension Jeep in
your 1987-2006 Wrangler (not needed for body lifted Jeeps). The kit
fits all newer production NP 231 transfer cases (1988 up). The purpose of this kit is to replace the slip
yoke portion of the NP231 with a fixed-yoke, CV style drive shaft
assembly. This is the most complete and strongest kit available. Check
out the size and thickness of the output shaft housing. NOTE: A CV
equipped drive shaft will be required for this conversion kit.
Eliminate problems with your NP231 transfer case. We offer quality professional slip yoke eleminator components and driveshafts. We aslo offer rebuilt NP231
transfer cases and parts including transfer
case parts kits
that are designed to be top of the line overhaul kits. The New Process 231 series
transfer case started to be installed in Jeep, applications
in 1987. These transfer cases are part time four wheel drive with shift positions
4HI - 2HI - N - 4L. The NP231 is 1:1 direct drive in high range, and use planetary
reduction gears for low range with a ratio of 2.72:1. More information on the NP231.

APPLICATIONS :
This
kit will reduce your tailshaft length by about 6.5" on 1997-2006 TJ
Wranglers and by about 4.25" on 1988-1995 YJ Wranglers, which
translates to lower rear driveshaft angles. This kit will also work on
XJ Cherokees with the NP231 transfer case.
This kit comes with a heavy-duty rear output shaft which has a
larger spline diameter and is stronger than the stock shaft. A new
aluminum tailshaft housing, bearings, seals, snap rings, speedo drive
gear, and instructions are also included. Some models may require
shortening the transfer case mode shift rail.
A new cv-style rear driveshaft will be required after installation of
this kit. We can supply this custom built CV Shaft for $199.00
NOTE:
Some early NP231 produced from 1987 – 1990 have the vacuum switch for
the front axle disconnect housed in the rear output shaft housing. This
kit is supplied with a new housing that does not allow for the vacuum
switch to be reused for this applications. It will be necessary to
purchase a cable operated disconnect manufactured by 4x4 Posi-Lock or replace the front passenger side
axles with later solid axle shafts.
Transfer Eliminator Mega Short Kit
The 18676.72 kit has been designed to work with all Wranglers and XJ
Cherokees with an electronic speedometer and a factory installed
NP231-J transfer case. Any vehicle manufactured prior to 1992 will need
to be retro fitted with an electronic speedometer (will not work with
cable driven speedometers)
APPLICATION NOTES: (1) Some early NP231 produced from 1987 – 1990 have
the vacuum switch for the front axle
disconnect located in the rear output shaft housing. This kit is
supplied with a new housing that does not allow for the vacuum switch
to be reused for this applications. It will be necessary to purchase a
cable operated disconnect manufactured by 4x4 Posi-Lock or replace the
front passenger side axles with later solid axle shafts.
(2) Some 1998 and older model Jeeps will have a different three wire
connecter than what is supplied with this kit. If this is the case you
will need to hard wire the leads to eliminate the connector all
together. Wire color codes and instructions are included later in the
instructions
(3) This kit will not work on 2007 and newer JK’s (4) This kit will not
work on TJ Rubicon’s or Rubicon Unlimited. (5) Proper calibration of
speedometer may be needed after installation. See chart supplied with
instructions for further information.
The purpose of this kit is to replace the slip yoke portion of the
NP231 with a fixed-yoke, CV-style drive shaft assembly. A CV equipped
drive shaft will be required with this conversion kit. The stock drive
shaft can be modified to work. Proper length and balance are critical.
High –quality drive shafts in the required lengths and configurations
are available to compliment this kit for many applications.
The easiest way to install this kit is to remove the transfer case from
your Jeep. Removal is not necessary, but usually is much quicker and
easier and highly recommended. The installation of this kit requires
almost total disassembly of your transfer case.

This unit is chain driven
front output, left hand drop (front drive shaft on driver's side) on the Jeep. The 231
are a light duty
transfer case typically used in 4 and 6 cylinder Jeep applications.
These New Process cases have a circular tag on the rear of the case,
near the center close to where the rear drive shaft exits.
Identification information for the NP231 transfer case is on this tag typically includes model
number, assembly number, and serial number and ratio data. When ordering
a replacement transfer case it's most important to provide the assembly
number. This number is typically eight digits, four number a rivet/screw
head and four additional numbers.
Jeep, versions all use a 6-bolt circular bolt pattern. This pattern
is non-symmetrical and will only bolt up one way. Jeep units and Dodge units are
general interchangeable, however Chevrolet units are not. While GM uses the same
6-bolt patter, they have it rotate approximately 90 degrees from that used by Jeep
or Dodge.
NP231 transfer cases come with either a 21 or 23 spline female input. The 21 spline
shaft is frequently found in 4 cylinder applications and the 2.8L V6, While 4.0L
6 cylinder and 8 cylinder applications always used the 23 spline input shaft.
