These quality T18 manual transmission parts, rebuild kits and overhaul kits are designed to be top of the line overhaul kits. We have included information on how to identify individual transmissions, application information, model year, and detailed kit and part availability by transmission type. Borg Warner transmissions are covered in this section; T18 rear wheel drive (RWD), typically used in Jeep, Ford & International requiring 4 speed applications. Ford installed the T18 in the following trucks: F-Series Truck, P-Series Van and Full size Bronco. International used this transmission in the Scout and Scout II. The following Jeep models incorporated the T18 4 speed transmission: CJ2A, CJ3A, CJ5, CJ6, CJ7, CJ8, Jeepster, Scrambler and Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Comanche and the Wagoneer.

Different overhaul kits are available depending on the extent of the overhaul that you planning, the contents of the kits are described as follows:

  • DTSBKXXX Kits (RWD): Main case bearings, gaskets, seals. You may also want to add new bearing retainer, nuts, dogs & wires, extension housing bushing, small parts kit, shifter bushings. Syncro rings are not included in these kits.

  • DTSBKXXXWS Kits (RWD): Main case bearings, gaskets, seals. You may also want to add bearing retainer, nuts, dogs & wires, extension housing bushing, small parts kit, shifter bushings. Syncro rings are included in these kits.

Information and parts are provided for the following Transmissions: T18/T98's an illustrated drawing of the T18 is also available.

 

IDENTIFICATION - - Cast iron, top loaded case with cast iron cover and tower shift. Shifter hold down cap threads onto top cover. For ball bearing units measure the width of the front input shaft bearing or compare to the width of the rear mainshaft bearing. Case casting numbers are not accurate in determining which unit you have. For best results, open and inspect internal information before ordering kits, T19 has a single step reverse idler gear and the T18 has a 2 step reverse idler. Case casting #'s are T98 or 13-01, or T19 or 13-09..

 

 

IDENTIFICATION - T18 4spd, RWD or 4WD, Cast iron, top loaded case with cast iron cover and tower shift. Shifter hold down cap threads onto top cover. For ball bearing units measure the width of the front input shaft bearing or compare to the width of the rear mainshaft bearing. Case casting numbers are not accurate in determining which unit you have. For best results, open and inspect internal information before ordering kits, the T18 has a 2 step reverse idler. Case casting #'s are T18 or 13-01.


TT18: Non-synchronized first gear with brass synchro rings for 2nd-4th. 2nd gear synchro has 36 teeth. Mainshaft reverse gear is located on the outside of the 1st/2nd slider and has 40 teeth.
