SR4 Borg-Warner 4 Speed Transmission Information and parts
Our Borg Warner SR4 4 speed manual transmission parts and rebuild kits are designed to be top of the line professional overhaul kits. Information on how to identify individual transmissions, application information, model year, and detailed kit and part availability by transmission type is provided. This transmission was typically used in AMC cars and Ford, Jeeps and Mercury requiring 4 speed applications. AMC used the SR4 in the following models Ambassador, American (Rambler), AMX, Concord, Eagle, Kammback, SX4, Gremlin, Hornet, Javelin, Marlin, Matador, Pacer, Rebel and Spirit starting in 1976 until 1982. Ford installed the SR4 in Mustang's from 1974 up to 1978. Jeep utilized this SR4 in the following models: Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Comanche, Wagoneer, CJ2A, CJ3A, CJ5, CJ6, CJ7, CJ8, Jeepster, Scrambler and Wrangle between 1976 and 1981. Mercury CAPRI's used the SR4 from 1979 up to 1981.
Two different overhaul kits are available; the contents of the kits are described as follows:

DTSBKXXX Kits (RWD): Main case bearings, gaskets, seals. Syncro rings are not included in these kits.

You can easily identify the SR4 4spd, RWD it is an all aluminum, top-loaded transmission with shifter on top of extension housing and internal single-rail shift linkage. This unit has Ball bearings on front input shaft and rear main shaft. Loose needles support the gear thru the Cluster. 1st-2nd synchros are larger than 3-4. You can find casting numbers 13-32 or 13-40.
