T18 T98 4 Speed Transmissions Information and parts

The Borg T18 rear wheel drive (RWD) was utilized in Jeep, Ford & International requiring 4 speed transmissions. Ford F-Series Truck, P-Series Van and Full size Bronco used the T18. International used this 4 speed transmission in the Scout and Scout II. The following Jeep models incorporated the T18: CJ2A, CJ3A, CJ5, CJ6, CJ7, CJ8, Jeepster, Scrambler and Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Comanche and the Wagoneer.
Different overhaul kits are available; the contents of the kits are described as follows:

You may also want to add new bearing retainer, nuts, dogs & wires, extension housing bushing, small parts kit, shifter bushings. An illustrated drawing of the T18 is also available.
The T18 has a cast iron, top loaded case with cast iron cover and tower shift. The shifter hold down cap is threaded on to the top cover. For ball bearing units measure the width of the front input shaft bearing or compare to the width of the rear main shaft bearing. Case casting numbers are sometimes not accurate in determining which unit you have. For best results, open and inspect internal information before ordering kits, T19 has a single step reverse idler gear and the T18 has a 2 step reverse idler. Case casting #'s are T98 or 13-01, or T19 or 13-09. T18: Non-synchronized first gear with brass synchro rings for 2nd-4th. 2nd gear synchro has 36 teeth. Main shaft reverse gear is located on the outside of the 1st/2nd slider and has 40 teeth.
